Pedometer Week 2
Goal: 7,066 steps/day Actual: 7,206 steps/day

Definitions:
5,000 steps/day: "sedentary"
10,000 steps/day: "adequate"
12,500 steps/day: "good"
15,000 steps/day: "very good"

Plan: Increase step/day average by 10% week over week until I'm above 10,000 steps/day average for a week. Each week's goal will be 10% higher than the previous week's goal. The initial baseline was taken from a "week 0", where I just carried the pedometer to monitor my "normal" activity (week 0 actual was 5,840 - much more sedentary than I expected).

Observations:
  • With a 31" stride, 1 mile is roughly 2,000 steps
  • Going to class easily adds 2,500 steps
  • I can do a 12,000-step day now, but I seem thus far unable to do multiple such days in a row.
  • When I work-from-home, my lifestyle becomes VERY sedentary, easily dropping down to 2,000 steps for the day.

so when you're at work, what do you do to increase your step count? just walk around the office? walk outside?

Thus far...
  • Explore other floors of the building
  • Walk to lunch (or, if I eat onsite or brought a lunch, go for a short walk after eating, but still within a "normal" lunch break)
  • Walk to work (with sunblock)
  • Walk home
  • Walk down to Pub Night
  • Walk to US1 (the building by Uwajimaya) for a meeting (with sunblock)
I'm currently using Workrave on my work computers to remind myself to get up and walk around every once in a while.
