Bill Gates OPENLY ADMITS THAT HIS SEARCH ENGINE IS SO LAME HE'S GOING TO HAVE TO PAY PEOPLE TO USE IT.
  • I compare google and msn searches for the same terms sometimes, and I fairly consistently find useful google results that are missing from the MSN results.
  • I've never come up with a single hit searching with the "site:seanb.livejournal.com" constraint, which I often use to search my public posts.
  • I frequently use the "similar pages" search, and miss this functionality when I am toying with MSN.
  • Having "Sponsored sites" above, below, and (sometimes) to the side of my search results feels insultingly cramped.
Does this fit your experiences? Does anybody like MSN search?

I refuse to use MSN search till they pay me to use it, or it stops sucking, or Google search turns into yahoo search.

NO! Even people at M$ always joke about how much is blows. I think the idea was more like what happened with IE. Their first version sucked but they got somewhat of a foot in the door and lept when the other guy went stale. Lets just prey that MSN dosn't become the best search tool.

Glad to hear it. I spew enough bile about Microsoft that I try very hard not to just devlolve into uninformed hatred.

Amazon had the right idea. They rigged up a search engine (www.a9.com) that was slightly sub-optimal but still pretty good, and they DO pay you to use it. Or rather, they give you a little discount on purchases from Amazon. Heh. Savvy, that.

I got paid a crapload of money to test it. So I kind of liked it then. But not really.
