In other happy fun news...
I was pulled over this evening for an expired my tab on my license plate. It must have fallen off. I was able to convince the cop of this incredibly lame excuse once I showed him up-to-date registration, but I need to visit the DMV in the morning.

It's entirely possible it was stolen off of your plate, too.

Happened to my wife's cousin (she lives in the U-district), and her story was rather convincing due to the fact that they had cut layers off down to the '96 tab just to ger the most recent one.

Not the dmv! You need to go to the vehicle/vessel registration office. But I'm sure you know that.

Yeah, it was probably stolen. I've heard that has been a problem lately. Also apparently people are copying VIN numbers from cars in parking lots and putting them on stolen cars, so they can be sold. The news recommended covering the VIN that shows on your dashboard with a piece of paper. I didn't get to see the whole report, so I'm a little unclear on the details, but I think having your VIN stolen can cause issues with registration or something... :/

The police also recommend taking a razor blade and slicing a big X through the tab once it is on. That way if someone tries to steal it, they only get a piece.
