Game was cancelled tonight
...so I have a free evening. Here's roughly what I'm considering:
  1. Get a Sound Card for my desktop machine.
  2. Load the dishwasher, if nobody else has done that yet
  3. Help pullthestars set up the other wireless adapter for her computer, see if that works better. If her problem was caused by a faulty card ALL ALONG, I'm going to kick myself ... and she is going to help me.
  4. Make sure I get trilliumgrl's books from horriblywrong. I may have to help him find them.
  5. Laundry, of course.
  6. Watch The Joe Schmo Show with roommates
  7. Install soundcard in my desktop computer.
  8. Recompile kernel with driver for sound card.
  9. Test the Desktop computer as a DVD playback setup upstairs.
  10. Read. I have a growing pile of books clamoring for my attention.

nah, I won't kick you, I'll just laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh...

I did pop it in there the other day, and it doesn't seem to have changed much. then again, I might not have set it up correctly.

the dishwasher actually should be unloaded.

I'm planning on sitting on one of the couches and working on kat's afghan.

I unloaded the dishwasher when I got home last night. Has it been loaded and run since then?

oh, OK, I didn't know that. I was sleepin' by then :)

No prob. I got home late, stayed up late talking on the phone, unloaded the dishwasher, had a glass of wine, and talked some more. It was a late night.

There's a few steps you probably didn't know to do:
1) Deactivate the existing card - shut down the connection in the windows control panel, stop their wireless software, pull the card out just to make sure. This will make sure that the connection we test is actually going through the NEW adapter, not the old card.
2) Install the drivers and software from the CD. Set up the wireless connection (SSID=seattlewireless, no encryption, IP settings from DHCP) in the new software. This will probably be required before windows can actually use the adapter.
3) Plug in the USB adapter.

If you missed any of those steps (probably, there's a lot of implicit tinkering around), then it's worth tackling tonight.

the previously active card is disabled. not sure if anything else beyond that needs to be done. And I did take the old card out :)

The drivers were auto-installed by Windows. I did not mess with the settings, though...

USB adapter? you mean the actual card?

USB adapter = the thingie that plugs into a USB slot. It's not card-shaped, so I'll tend to avoid calling it a card.

That's a free night?!
you do more cleaning as backup than I think most people do in a week.

I'm thinking about doing laundry. ::shudder::

Re: That's a free night?!
Kudos to you, my friend. At least you have clean laundry at some point! :^) Oh a happier note, I did get some dishes done. Well, it's a happier note for me. I take what I can get!
