...blah blah blah... crappy dialogue... blah blah blah... combat sequence... evil plot... blah blah blah... world in peril... blah blah blah... oooh Batman... blah blah blah... reference an issue number in another series... blah blah blah... more combat... blah blah blah.

Just to see what the fuss was, I read the comic books pullthestars left with me to return to jenny_sparks. They did a good job of reminding me why I'm not and never have been a superhero comic book junkie. Sometimes I think it's just that I haven't found the RIGHT comic books yet; other times I'm concinced that I'm just not wired to "get" it.

Its a tricky thing
There are few comic series that I enjoy anymore. The ones that remain on my favorites list are invariably non-superhero comics such as Strangers in Paradise and Los Bros Hernandez Palomar stories. (Love and Rockets).

S'why I don't collect anymore, seems most spandex-comic writers always try to write "cosmic" stories and forget the down-to-earth human angles that are invariably more interesting.

But The Thing still rocks. Heh. Rocks. Get it?

It's probably a little bit of both.

Different people have different tastes in superhero comics, and don't "get" others.

It's just how it goes.

Boy, you've sure got some balls! That kinda talk must be close to sacrelidge with some of your friends! :) Go you!

I would suggest graphic novels instead. They tend to have more intelligent story lines, have BEAUTIFUL artwork, and are generally better (in my opinion).

Re: *little giggle*
Ha!Ha! "Graphic Novels" is just a fancy word for "Comic Book".

Re: *little giggle*

Depending on what you enjoy, you might want to take a look into 'Darkness' as a potential comic, esp. if you like anti-heros. I know not what you've sampled, so I can't suggest alternates. Tis just one of my favs.

So far, I've read and enjoyed:
Girl Genius
Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors

Of Superhero comics I've borrowed and read, I've comce closest to enjoying Batman (but not enough to actually BUY any). I've also read some X-Men titles, a couple random things lithera let me read that I don't remember the titles of, a Young Justice graphic novel, and a Jenny Sparks graphic novel (the last two are the ones I read last night).

Oh yeah, pullthestars also had me read "Drak Knight Returns" and "Kingdom Come" last year.

Next time you bump into cody, or show up in BHam. Ask if you can see his collection of 'darkness' from what you've listed, you just might enjoy it.

Different things for different people.
St. Sean the Amused: daemonseanb on June 17th, 2002 08:52 am (UTC)
Exactly. I'm giving fair tries, and reading whatever is handed to me, but I'm only growing more convinced that superhero comics are not for me.

Have you read Sandman? It's the one most commonly bandied about to people who wanna read comix but aren't into superheroes.
St. Sean the Amused: kermitseanb on June 17th, 2002 10:17 am (UTC)
Heh, I OWN the sandman graphic novels, although only one of them is signed by Neil. I don't consider that a "superhero" comic, though.
Lady Doomlithera on June 17th, 2002 09:03 am (UTC)
*nods* Superhero comics, for me, are not about plots, though there can be good ones. It's about great characters.

Though, I think there are those that are far above and away, like Sandman and Maus.
TW Bruhn: Clobberin'Style (Smite!)apestyle on June 17th, 2002 07:39 am (UTC)
Superheroes are dumb. Except for The Thing. (heehee)
Musings with no Musejenny_sparks on June 17th, 2002 08:11 am (UTC)
you cannot use the super friends as an arguement for or against comics ... it isn't fair.

and I would like to emphatically say... comics good!

Comics are good. Superheroes (except for The Thing) are dum.

Turning the Schmaltz up to 11: spideypullthestars on June 17th, 2002 08:26 am (UTC)
I left the Jenny Sparks and the Young Justice with him.
St. Sean the Amused: Shadow daemonseanb on June 17th, 2002 08:50 am (UTC)
Read both of them.
