Brewing tonight
Brown Beer a.k.a. Homebrew Batch Delta

Adapted from Tittabawasee Brown Ale in the old online edition of How To Brew, for a 1 gallon batch.

Grains:
0.6 lb of Crystal 60L malt
3/4 oz Chocolate malt

I screwed up the math (was looking in the wrong column) on the crystal malt - should have been 0.2 lb, but I didn't notice until it was already in the pot. Cutting down the light DME to compensate...

Extract:
8 oz Pale DME
3 oz Dark DME (to help the nutty flavor)

Hops:
7.5 AAU nugget, 60 minutees
1 AAU Cascade, 30 minutes
1 AAU Cascade, 15 minutes
(I had leftover Cascade)

Yeast: Safale US-5

Currently boiling, haven't tasted the wort yet.

I'm also trying to use some of the spent grain in waffles

Adapted from the "easy" version in How to Cook Everything, double batch
Dry:
Spent grain, drained but not dried (about 4 cups)
4 cups AP flour
1 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder

Wet:
4 eggs, beaten
8 oz (1 stick) butter, melted and cooled (I do 10-second increments in the microwave)
1 cup buttermilk, 2 cups milk (would have done a higher ratio if I had more buttermilk handy)

The grains in the waffles are a little chewy, but flavorful. Whole-grain goodness, for those so inclined. These should freeze up well.

Maybe I should put together a "brewing" icon?
