What I read in February
(yes, I didn't get around to making this until the ides of March. Travel guides don't count)
Halo by Tom Maddox. Not memorable.
Aerophilia by Tobias Buckell. Meh.
Postsingular by Rudy Rucker. Mostly involved silly-fntasy escapes from Singularity.
White Night by Jim Butcher. Finally. Dresden's depth was a very nice change of pace.
Idlewild by Nick Sagan. An obvious and derivative cyberspace story becomes much more interesting in the second half.
Accelerando by Charles Stross. Some interesting ideas, but the human characters were extremely flat.
The Butlerian Jihad by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. I had to share trilliumgrl's pain. I want to know what happens, but I do not want to suffer through any more of this terrible prose. Wikipedia plot synopsis to the rescue!
Te Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. An interesting thesis, worthy of a twenty page paper. Not worty of a full book.
Mistborn (The Final Empire, book 1) by Bradon Sanderson. Free from Tor.com. Interesting "magic" system. Awkward pacing, flat characters.
My Own Kind Of Freedom by Steven Brust. Firefly novel. Surprisingly good descriptions of River's mental state.
