Pictures from Day 1
Copenhagen 2008

Qouth trilliumgrl: "Today we walked. A lot. Then we walked some more. Then we went to grocery stores, and we got food".

All of the reviews that I saw for the Ascot Hotel praised the continental breakfast; they were right. A variety of fresh breads, fruits, cheeses and baked goods, juices and meats. I saw a selection of yogurt toppings, but we will have to find the yogurt another day.

To get familiar with the neighborhood, we tried the Lonely Planet "Traditional Royal Ramble" today. This involved walking the full length of Strøget, ambling along Nyhavn canal, parading through Amalienborg slot, contemplating the innards of Marmokirken, and a final stroll through Kongens have. There were, of course, side jaunts to explore neat chapels, shops, and statuary, with many possibilities noted for future reference.

Nina sent me a list of Cafes to visit. Most are in long-walk distance, so they will have to be explored over the next two weeks.

Dinner tonight was at Oscar's, which had cute little gay waiters and a "wall of fame" topped by Oscar Wilde. Kyna had the half-litre of Hoegarden, and I had a Leffe Brune. This town seems to be Carlsberg country much more than Amsterdam was Heineken country; I may have to try Nina's list just to find a better selection of not-available-in-Seattle booze.

I am enchanted by the blankets for coffee patrons, and sad that they would get totally stolen here.

Also, that is a mighty beer!

Kyna is usually defering to your posts, so I'm adding you. Hi! I'm Drew.

PS: that is an enormous beer.
